Why Liberals Hate Russia

I could understand if you look at someone like Mitch McConnell and observe that he's spent his career trying to destroy the American government and to harm Americans and assume that this is because he "hates America"..In fact, I've used that shorthand myself, and I think it's not entirely wrong - certainly McConnell has shown no love for the country that's given him so much and nobody could ever argue that he's got America's best interests at heart - but if pressed I'd have to admit that his motivation is almost certainly a craven self-interest, and that he couldn't give a shit about America or Americans. So there's a bit of room for nuance there, but you can see that there's a way to make the claim about McConnell based on his observed behavior (which has been harmful to all Americans, probably most of all to those who support him most - nobody ever said a Republican was smart, and they would be wrong to say that)

But in the absence of that sort of overt behavioral evidence, what could you possibly mean by claiming that someone "hates" some country? How would you know that someone has that emotional disposition towards a particular political abstraction? In short, what the hell are you trying to mean here?
