Pillars is fun historical fiction. Adams is great fun if you have the corresponding sense of humour (and you'll finally understand the "42" referenece, which will help if you hear it as often as me). I love Steinbeck and will definitely read that one someday. I read that set of Bradbury stories in high school, just added his Martian Chronicles to my TBR pile. Glass Bead Game is pretty brilliant stuff, by another favourite author of mine. I'm less familiar with your alternates list, but the H.G. Wells story remains superior to any movie version so far and Stroud wrote a brilliant trilogy.

I didn't know Tolkien wrote a poetic version of the King Arthur story, that's interesting. So is Youssef's book. I don't think I could abide reading Sylvia Plath but it's a certified classic. I'll have to poke through some of the others I don't recognize here, or (better) wait for your two cents. :)

>2 Cecrow: Sounds like my primary list is going to be fun! I started with Notes from Underground and am really struggling to push through it. Next month I will probably choose something lighter to read.

>3 bookworm148:, Pillars is lighter despite its length, and Hitchhiker is possibly the lightest thing in your whole challenge.
