I didn't know whether to take this at face value. Not necessarily a dragon per se, but something supernatural - we know McLean has had to face the supernatural before. I don't know of any aircraft that would account for the sound of flapping wings. If it was simply a case of wings suggesting to the boy that it was a dragon, then I might be looking at the possibility of a microlight.

I think it was either a helicopter or a hot air balloon. The hot air being replaced would make a noise that might sound like dragon breath to a 10-year old in the dark.

I thought it might be a hot air balloon. Helicopters are pretty loud and when you hear one, you usually recognize it.

>6 Olivermagnus: That's what I thought also. People usually hear them and know what is coming long before they see them.

I also thought a stealth type helicopter and put the boy’s idea of a dragon down to a young healthy imagination..enhanced by the early morning solitude and darkness. However, I am keeping an open mind since something supernatural would not be out of the ordinary for this author

I was thinking....maybe a parachute? A tandem one with the victim was trussed up and then released to plummet to his death. A parachute might sound like a dragon....or perhaps I’m reaching.... hahaha

>11 bluebird_: We're all reaching. It will probably be something so simple and we'll all feel.."inadequate"...for lack of a better term:)
