How can a child go missing and no one be looking for him?

No one reported him was the reason we were supposed to believe. The father may not have reported him but I'm sure the school would have contacted the police...unless when they contacted the father he acted all heart broken and told them how the police were searching for his son but couldn't find any trace of him. The whole thing goes back to the parent(s).

The premise was that the father didn't want him and allowed Death to take him

I, too, thought there'd be a problem with the schools. Even if the father claimed to be moving, surely another school should contact the old one for the kid's academic records?

The father would have to be a lot more involved after giving up his kid. He would have to notify schools, neighbors, etc with some sort of believable story.

>2 Carol420: I thought that was odd as well that the school didn't report Ricky missing even if the father didn't. However, as we found out about them moving so frequently and all the various schools, it became a bit more understandable that the school wouldn't have been an issue if Ricky's father simply told them they were moving again.
