Tuscany Reds

I purchase stupid amounts of wine throughout the year, buying, trying, forgetting. So when I find something particularly delicious, I have to tell the world.

My question to fellow oenophiles is whether they know of other recommendations from this region. I have a hunch that Tuscany wines are pretty good all around.

Oh yeah, I like wine books. Does that help wrangle me into the context of this forum? ;)

Well, there are a lot of attractive Tuscan wines.

I particularly like the Morellino di Scanso appellation, from the Maremma region of SW Tuscany, which is where your Gualdo del Re comes from.

Also generally excellent is Rosso di Montalcino (but very popular and has got a bit pricey).

Vintage year matters more for Tuscany than for some other places, such as southern Italian regions like Sicily.

Much like LibraryThing, you will never forget a bottle of wine again. It is as important to remember the bad wines as the great wines.

But Tuscan wines - I will definately try your suggestion. I recently loved a Tuscan blend by Luce (Marchesi de' Frescobaldi).

I dabble with other countries but always love coming back to my Italians...

I had a glass of a Villa Antinori red in a restaurant a few years ago. It was very dry, the driest wine I've ever had, and just awesome.
(According to my credit card statement, it was "Villa Antinori Super Tuscan," which makes it sound like a WWF wrestler, for Pete's sake!)
