Any initial thoughts about the woman in the yellow dress in the car? What do you make of her lip?

I'd surmise she was a lady of the night, and the man in the car was a punter who got a few extra kicks from slapping her.

I would say that she was a hooker and the man punched on the side of her face near her lip.

She might have been a hooker or she might have just been some everyday woman trying to earn a living. Don't forget that she couldn't say "no" to the white man and absolutely no one that wanted to see the sun come up tomorrow was going to dare help her. We are going to have to throw aside all thoughts of human decency and how it would work in today's society with this book.

Your first thought is a prostitute but as Carol said we cn’t Be certain about this, and she had certainly been slapped around.

I thought she might be an entertainer of some sort, possibly a singer. She seemed very well dressed but not too provacably. I'm curious if her locket will provide us with a clue.
