Topical suggestion: I recently read, and would recommend, Not Even Wrong: The Failure of String Theory And the Search for Unity in Physical Law by Peter Woit. Requires a fair bit of mathematics to follow all the arguments, but it's a fascinating read, and more importantly, should provoke some interesting discussion.

Woit also has a blog called Not Even Wrong, which I've read off-and-on for the last year or so.

Whats done is done… or is it? - fundamentals - 28 September 2006 - New Scientist. (I apologize for being an interested layman rather than a physicist).
This is a great lead article about the possibilities of "retrocausality" i.e. the future affecting the past, or what it's originator John Cramer calls a "Quantum Handshake". See his 1996 article: npl.washington.edu/AV/altvw16.html and his "Light in Reverse Gear" article: npl.washington.edu/AV/altvw08.html talking about his Transactional interpretation of reality. I would also highly recommend John Gribbin's book Schrodinger's Kittens that introduced me to the idea.
What's happened now is that Cramer has devised a clever experiment to test it.
I reviewed Gribbin's book here: http://www1.dragonet.es/users/markbcki/gribbin.htm
