Will be driving most of tomorrow so thought I would set up the Group for the book discussion early. Looking forward to this one after the first book in the series, and especially as I had to wait over a month before I could get the book out of the library. Now don't let me down Chris!

What do you hope for from the book?

Can someone (hint, hint, Carol, Lol) remind us of what happened in the first book for those of us with short memories (although we read it last October) or for those of us that have joined from the second book.

You're wish is my command oh Mighty Question Master:)

The Crucifix Killer – Book #1

An isolated and grisly crime scene gets a whole lot worse for LAPD Homicide Detective Robert Hunter when a strange double-cross is found on the body of a sadistically tortured murder victim.

It’s the same cross that was the signature of the infamous, and executed, “Crucifix Killer”; a signature that had never been publicly revealed.

When we meet Robert Hunter we find a determined cop but a tormented individual.

He is portrayed as a prodigy whose PhD thesis written at the age of 24, became a training manual for the FBI.

His torment comes from mistakes that he made in the past after having to yield to the pressure to find the killer thus helping convict an innocent man for killing his wife and then discovering after the innocent man commits suicide that another man was responsible

Hunter and his rookie partner Carlos Garcia are now charged with tracking down a vicious killer whose actions bring the past back and raises some disturbing questions about the original investigation, arrest, and execution.

Are they now facing a copycat with intimate knowledge of those earlier killings? Did the police make a massive mistake, allowing the real killer to remain at large and kill again and again while an innocent man was executed?

Chris Carter does a great job of showing the effects of a tough investigation on those involved. The new case puts extra pressure on Hunter…that already has one dead partner and doesn’t want another one.

Carlos Garcia struggles to keep the required balance between his demanding new job and his relationship with his wife.

As a group there were 9 participants…Andrew, Carol, Eadie, Jen, Sergei, Bluebird, Brenda, Sushi, and Lynda.

We gave this book a very high star rating…. ranking it in the levels with Raven Black and Ice Hunt…which also received 4.58 overall ratings. Individually there were 4 – 5 star ratings; 2 – 4.5 star ratings; 2 – 4 star ratings; & 1 - 4.2 star rating for an overall average rating of 4.58

Comments from the participants:

"I hope Carter is always so sharing in his books - as a reader, being fed with so many clues made me feel 'involved', not just a bystander. So many authors leave me feeling excluded."

"Absolutely a tremendously absorbing story. Great characters. Love Robert and Garcia and like that Carter took a character that would usually be despised and mistrusted and made him likable."

"The characters, the great suspense, I haven't been this hooked on a book in a long time!"

"The totally shocking surprises and twists. Kept us on the edge of our seat and kept us guessing all the way through. Interesting characters."
