This piece, about some obsolete insect-inspired microbots, didn't entirely work for me as a story. I wasn't convinced that so much money would have been sunk into such fragile designs in the first place, and I felt I had to work a little bit more than I should have to parse some of the sentences and make sense of some pronouns. However, I did feel touched by where the story went.

So ... I've had a long interruption in my regularly scheduled programming due to health issues and major life upheavals. Trying to get back on track with reading a story-per-day.

This slightly steampunk tale is a very quick and smooth read. I didn't put a link because it's not free to all; I purchased it as a short story e-book on Amazon.

Story # 11

Title: "Love All, Trust Few, Harm None"
Author: Anya Johanna Deniro
Length: ____ words
Category: Short story (science fiction / YA)
Where Published: One Teen Story
When Published: 2016-12
Rating:
Link: N/A

This story was pretty bad. It's unusual for One Teen Story to publish anything that smacks of "genre," and for a first foray into SF since I've been subscribing, they made a terrible choice. There's one intriguing element in this story, which is that a person's debt physically grows somewhere on their body like clear, hardened resin. But there's nothing resembling any resolution to the main character's plot, plus the author throws in that the main character has to come out as transgendered to her best friend and her parents. Instead of one theme explored well, there are two themes explored badly and incompletely. The abrupt non-ending makes this more a slice-of-SF-life vignette rather than a story. Disappointing.
