I believe this book is out of print and I would love to see Searching for Shona by Margaret Jean Anderson back in print with an updated cover. I loved this book as a child. I loved the ending. The subject of the children evacuating from the UK during WWII was fascinating, but not as much as the plot twist, and mystery about Shona.

I can't find a copy of A Void by Georges Perec anywhere in London. Out of print?? Surely not

The Valuetales series by Spencer Johnson and Ann Donegan Johnson... All of them.

I was so happy a few years back when Golden Classic Books reprinted The Golden Book of Fairy Tales. I grew up having my mother read to me from her copy. It was old, stained, and no cover. I was thrilled when they reprinted this and I was able to buy her another copy.

Another author's books I'd like to see back in print, are Leslie Charteris's Saint Series. I especially liked The Saint in Miami, thought it would still be contemporary. Love to see it done as a movie!

One book I'd like to see reprinted is CS Forester's Poo-Poo and the Dragons. I found a few copies available on abebooks or elsewhere but out of my price range!

I'd like to see Mrs. Tim Christie by D.E. Stevenson back in print. I have Mrs. Tim Carries On , bu the copies of the former are well over $50 used.

It's a national scandal (on both sides of the pond) that The Autobiography of a Super-Tramp by W. H. Davies is out of print. It's a classic account of Davies's life as a hobo in early twentieth-century America, and is one of my favourite books. I would love to give it as a birthday or Christmas present, but it just isn't available :(

Oops, Murphy's law, scrub that; have just discovered a reprint from R A Kessinger Publishing Co. There seems to have been a Supertramp/Super-Tramp/Super Tramp searching glitch!

OH MY GOODNESS. I loved that book as a child. I could not remember what it was called or who it it was by -- I just remember the story of the two girls switching place. I was just looking for it lately and it's been driving me crazy. Librarything is the best!

My favorite books that are currently out of print are White in the Moon by Gretchen Sprague, and Thursday's Children by Rumer Godden. I read White in the Moon over and over in high school, and was amazed when I looked on the used books sites and saw it was out of print and hugely expensive (I got a cheap copy on ebay).

Purple House Press has been reprinting childrens books, see the article in the St. Pete Times link above, or their website. I've been thinking of putting together a list of books (childrens) that should be back in print to email them. They do accept emails for reprint suggestions! Another good book, that my father remembers and suspects of being banned was Little Black Sambo. I it in an antique store a few months back, almost bought it for him, the price seemed reasonable at the time, but I was broke.

"A Void" seems to go in and out of print, but I've never had trouble finding it at any medium-to-large used book store, at least here in the US. I do know that there's a new Verba Mundi edition that came out late last year:

If anyone wants a print copy of an out-of-copyright out-of-print book, you can always use the service at lulu.com. It look quite affordable, there's no minimum order, and you can upload a PDF, DOC or even RTF. So if you get something from Project Gutenberg, for example, and do some amateur typesetting using InDesign or whatever, you could have a finished copy of something you've been wanting to hold in your hands for, like, under $10 (B&W softcover).

I haven't used this service, but I definitely will at some point. It sounds great!

And I realize that sounded a bit like I work for lulu.com or something, but I promise I have no affiliation. It's just a very good idea for a service. :)

My copy of Rumer Godden's Thursday's Children has a lovely cover, which was what made me pick it up in the shop, and I've been searching for the picture online to put up on my record for the book, but have only found the very ugly cover of another edition. It's a fairly unique book, as books about children doing ballet go, I like rereading it.

Over on the boats and sailing group a link was posted to a recent article listing the 101 greatest seafaring books, a number of which are out of print. Several I was intrested in getting cannot be acquired used for less than $30 dollars and often more; so I'd like to see Journal of a Cruise by David Porter, The Cruise of the Nona by Hilaire Bellocand Tom Cringle's Log by Michael Scott reprinted.

Very slightly off the main topic of this thread, I'd like to celebrate the return to print in a new, revised edition of The Fiction Editor, the Novel, and the Novelist by Thomas McCormack, past leader of St. Martin's Press. It's the hadns-down best book I've ever encountered at teaching, so far as it can be taught, the art of editing a novel.

As far as I know, the only new version of Alone: The Classic Polar Adventure by Richard E. Byrd uses blue text against a white background. I found the blue letters very tough on the eyes, thus the book was impossible to read.

The works of Howard Pease, shipboard thrillers featuring a young sailor look like fun, but they are out of print and used versions are pretty expensive. Given the renewed interest in the genre, they seem ripe for reprinting.

But my personal choice is Masques by Patricia Briggs. Everything _else_ she wrote has been reissued...wahhh! Her breakthrough book was her fourth, and two of the preceding three have come out, but no sign of Masques (her first). I like her early stuff a lot better than her current series.

Okay, my absolute favorite young/teen reader was Celia Garth by Gwen Bristow. It's a Revolutionary War story set in Charleston, and Celia's adventures mirror Johnny Tremain's in Boston. However, here we have a girl heroine!! Imagine how impressive that was several years back. I've only been able to find resale copies online, and I keep recommending it to people who are looking for stories with female lead characters for their elementary age girls.

The Little Fuzzy books by H. Beam Piper go in and out of print as well. Great introductory non-hard science fiction.

How about any of the Madeline Brandeis Children of the World or Children of America series? I read all of them while forced to stay in bed with an illness in the second grade. They were full of life and pictures, and are probably horribly dated now, but that was where I first learned about the bombings of WWI and how it affected the Europeans.

Just found this thread! One of my favorite childhood books "Sir Machinery" has been out of print a long time. It's time to bring it back!

Does anyone remember "The Common Reader" catalog? They were a small reprinter of books as well, and they went belly-up a few years ago. They had brought back into print some silly books about Freddy the Pig, whose adventures around upstate New York gave my sisters and later me a lot of hoots reading. I can't find Freddy and the Baseball Team from Mars anywhere!
