C'mon you closet gamers - I know you're out there with your 8-sided dice, obscure rule variations and rec rooms that smell of paint fumes!

I haven't played so much as created. I have a thing for painting the minis and building the terrain, but I'm not sure I have ever sat down and played an actual game all the way through. I'm a fan of Privateer Press's Warmachine game. I also play Wizkids' Pirates game, which is still a minis wargame, but probably not what you are looking for.

Yes, the time to create and/or setup most games was much longer then any time I actually spent playing. The artistry of toy soldiers still astounds me. When I was introduced to The War Game by Charles L. Grant the pictures told of another gaming world that I could build. Who could resist?

I have painted a lot, gamed a lot and even done a lot of playtesting. We have a local club with about 45 paid members and another 20 loitering on the fringes. I am finishing up a 15mm WWII 1940 Brit army and a SYW 25mm Russian army. Of course there are half a dozen other projects in various stages of completion. With the new Old Glory offer ($1000 worth for 40% off) I and another 9 members of the club put together a big order. Now I am off to another project. Do any of you actually finish a project? I don't.

I too am a painter and a gamer, and have a hard time finishing projects. Though I have thousands of unpainted little men, I have, the past couple of years, been able to avoid taking on new things. Now my painting and purchases are narrowed to some core interests--Hundred Years War, DBA, Wayne's Legion, and others. Finishing projects without being distracted by the next new thing is difficult.

I am a painter (very slow) and a wargamer. I have a symbiotic wargaming relationship with Kindermord; I develop the projects and he does the painting.
We've hit on a good (partial) solution for finishing projects before being distracted by the next one; we tend to get distracted by projects in the same war!
Currently we're (mostly) restricting ourselves to WWII and the ACW
Pretty much all 6mm though

Guilty as charged. Way back in 1981 I got hold of a copy of Military Modelling, and I've been gaming on and off ever since. Presently I am 15mm Napoleonics with Huzzah rules.

I got started as a teen through discovering a few wargaming books in the library. I think I started with either a Featherstone book or George Gush's book, but the one that really fired my imagination was Operation Warboard. It's only in the past year that I've started finding and purchasing the books that originally sparked me to add to my own library.

I'm just now trying to get into the painting side of things. When I first got in as a young teen, I painted maybe a dozen and parts of another few before growing impatient and deciding that if Operation Warboard didn't need painted figures, neither did I. Now, getting back into the hobby as an adult, I'm trying to learn how to paint my Napoleonics properly...but my Warboard will likely still be populated by unpainted figures for a long time yet to come.

Good morning mates, started out with the old Avalon Hill boardgames (1914 etc) but eventually switched over to miniatures (first 6mm, then 15s). I now have ACW, Napoleonic, Ancient & Dark Ages armies from Spartans to Confederate Army of Mississippi. I'm currently (slowly) painting a Marian Roman army (since I'm watching HBO's ROME series).

Also introduced by Avalon Hill (I still have a playable copy of Tactics II), then S&T. Charles Grant got me into mins. Mostly 25mm Napoleonics and Ancients. Lately I've gotten hooked on "Fear God and Dread Nought" and have little ships wandering around the living room floor. Luckily I'm married to a Lady who is not only tolerant, but occaisionaly plays, as long as she can be the French...
