Has anybody read this short story collection? I just finished it and thought it was very good. It's a slim volume of interconnected stories about a Jewish family that has left Russia during the late-70s glasnost and has settled in Toronto. Very good writing. Published circa 2004, I think.

I read it- I agree. I thought that the book was very contemporary and caught the lifestyle of new Russian immigrants and their life in Canada.( specifically the suburb in Toronto- North York. I also saw the film that the author directed and wrote" Victoria Day" and his book The Free World- oh the touchstones are weird tonight- Jane Austen?. I heard a review of The Free World by a Russian born professor who knew the culture and she thought that the work was very authentic- I didn't like the novel as well as the short story collection.
