I'm in desparate need of help in shortening my holiday reading list. If anyone can make suggestions that will help I'll be hugely grateful. I can pack an absolute maximum of 5 books (I know more will be bought at the airport) and the ideal list will be made up of novels that are set in a hot country/summer/good weather/ at the very least, nowhere cold. They need to have a good meaty plot and great characters and, while not being too 'fluffy' should probably not require more than the average amount of concentration. Here is my long list - I have just over a week to whittle it down -

Tiger Hills - Sarita Mandanna
What the Dead Know - Laura Lippman
Tiny Sunbirds Far Away -Christie Watson
Night Calypso - Lawrence Scott
The Trout Opera - Matthew Condon (this one's an 'almost definite' - I started it last year on holiday and was enjoying it but got sidetracked)
The Gravedigger's Daughter - Joyce Carol Oates
The Thread - Victoria Hislop (set in the right country so already a likely choice)
The Lacuna - Barbara Kingsolver
The Death of Mr Love - Indra Sinha
Heresy - S J Parris
Armadale - Wilkie Collins
and any one of Four Daphne du Mauriers - The King's General, Hungry Hill, The Glass-Blowers or Rule Britannia

Thank you!
