Thanks. I'm new to the site. I started the last week in April. I'm still cataloging. I have other Flashman books that I haven't cataloged yet. I'm about 1/2 way through.

I enjoyed the Flash book with Lola Montez. While reading it I saw it as a movie.

Are you also on Pacific time?

I joined in September, and still have a long way to go in cataloging. It doesn't help that most of my books have no ISBNs and usually require manual entry or extensive editing.

Not on Pacific time, just waging a losing battle with insomnia. :-)

I've been reading (and re-reading) the Flashman series for years. A friend sent me Flashman in the late '80s and since I have read everything Fraser has written. The history in the Flashman series is incredibly accurate. When I was in Grad school working on a MA in History, I "checked up" on many of Fraser's citations in "Flashman and the Redskins" and "Flashman and the Great Game" and and was able to locate and verify almost all the sources he mentions. I consider these novels to be much more accurate than many of the "real " Histories out there. 'Flash Harry' may not have actually existed but he Should have . . .

I seem to recall reading somewhere that George MacDonald Fraser & Buddy Ebsen were goood pals and travelled about England and Scotland together?

I picked it up about the time I was touring the borders and highlands myself.

I would appreciate if someone could source that for me. I can't remember where I read or heard it.

Sorry to take so long to join, but it's been a busy year, and I think this is the first time I've been on LibraryThing all year.

Of all the series fiction out there, Flashy is tops with both of Jasper Fforde's next in line. But I got a huge laugh out of George MacDonald Fraser's the Pyrates, too, having watched many of those sea-faring flicks on the Afternoon Movie and the Late Show (the late night movie that pre-dated late night talk show of the same name) during my younger days.

Thanks for the invitation. I've read several of the Flashman series and am slowly picking up the rest - also rereading one or two that I read 30-odd years ago and can't remember any more. I agree with Foxhunter on Quartered safe out here.

A friend of mine, in the early 70's, said, "Here I think you'll like this, it reminds me of you", and handed me a copy of Flashman. I fail to see the resemblance, then or now, but am forever indebted to him for turning me on to a great, great fictional character.

Has anyone put together a chronological list of events (not publishing dates) for the entire Flashman series?

I knew that Flashman had many lovers but I hadn't realised he had married so often. Even a cad can get cornered.

I have only recently made the acquaintance of Mr. Flashman and was wondering is there any particular order they should be read in? Is there a chronological list anywhere?

I think they are most enjoyable if you read them in the order they were published. Although this isn't chronologically "correct", the references from one book to another make more sense, as the author fleshed out his characters and added more detail to their histories as he wrote the books.
