Impossible Astronaut?

Wow, no one talking about the new series that just started?

The US audience sees it in another hour or so, and it's a two-parter with the other half airing tomorrow (depending on which side of the pond you're on.) Maybe people are holding off to avoid spoilers?

Me, I need to rewatch it. I'm mostly confused.

Then we've got to wait a week then because those down under have until the 30th until they see it.

Watching it now....

Maybe it's just not an active enough group for most people to really think of posting here? There wasn't any discussion last season, I think. Many people have non-LT places where they can talk about it.

That said, I really enjoyed the episode despite being kind of confused and also mildly terrified, because the character interactions were pretty great. The second half isn't airing here until next Saturday (same for the UK actually) so I guess we'll have to wait a while. Why is there still a delay for Australia? Commonwealth countries should get Doctor Who in a timely manner!

The strangest thing for me was Mark Sheppard using an American accent (with decent results). One more show for him to tick off on the genre checklist!

I loved it but the whole cliffhanger thing is sooooo annoying! Next week is WAAY to far away right now.

And then there are those of us without cable who will have to wait for the season to be available on DVD and then to be able to afford to purchase it.

Unless, with worldwide "simultaneous" release, we'll be able to watch it online even if we're not in Britain....

Reneemarie you could try the Australian ABC online at http://www.abc.net.au/iview/. I'm not sure whether it is blocked for international users or not..

I'll do a bit more searching, but it'll probably be the same everywhere.

I can wait. Not always patiently, but I can wait. I've got some co-workers who are Doctor Who fans, too, but they always bear in mind my non-cable status and don't give away plots.

Of course, my manager does taunt me with the knowledge that if I had cable, and BBC America, I could already have seen it. {sigh}

I've got plenty of other stuff to watch, including series 5 of "Waking the Dead" and series 1 of "New Tricks." And I have yet to watch the two Peter Davison episodes I bought. And "Lost in Austen." And "Desperate Romantics."

Of course, I think I might have to meander over to an online store to see if there's a projected date yet for the next Who season on DVD....

Well this year's series is split into two for broadcast. We have 6 episodes which will finish in June. Then another 7 in the autumn / winter.

Here in the US it always used to be that the shows would premiere in September, run about six months, and then repeat until the next season started the following September.

Now it's hard to figure out whether a show has been canceled or is just starting later in the year. I miss the olden days.

It is something new to Doctor Who and to British TV.

Generally we do not have a fixed series length. Some series get 3 or 4 episodes, some 6, some 8, DW gets 13.

When DW returned in 2005 people were disappointed with it being on during the summer. Traditionally Doctor Who was shown either Sep-Nov or Jan-Mar. The dark nights, wind, and rain all made it that little bit more scary.

Oh and I was wrong in 14. It is 7 in the first half, 6 in the second.
