i wonder if any of you mcdonald/travis mcgee fans have the same impetus i have, e.g., to know what travis has been doing since 1986, when he left us in the lonely silver rain.

well, i for one, will tell you as i'm doing the 22nd travis mcgree novel with all kudos to JDM. the key lime pie will be finished about the middle of 2008 i think, unless i get a spiritual visit from the late JDM and he helps me finish it sooner. i know travis meets his soul mate and marries her, and at the end they have a child (son). other than that, where will the 50-something mcgree go next?

To tell the truth, I thought that the books were getting awfully long-winded and repetitive by the time The Lonely Silver Rain came out.

Judging from prior form, I'd expect the wife and son to be murdered, and Trav to set out to track down the killer. :-)

Do you have to get approval from MacDonald's estate to publish a book featuring Travis? I've never been sure how that works.

myshelves: don't think so. as long as you attribute the characters to JDM it's okay i think. there comes a time in many person's lives when they know they are soon going where no lawyer can touch them, and i'm there. so, as our daytona bikers say, DILLIGAF.
I agree with you about killkng off the wife and son, but it's not going to happen. i forsee where the son takes up the father's quests in the 21st century, but that's someone else's gig.

Good luck with the book, Andy! Do you have publishing lined up? ebook?

I thought it was about time I joined, as a long-time fan of JDM. Its been a while since I've reread any, but they are all there waiting for me...
