I am currenting listening to Lord of Chaos though I haven't gotten to the part where Nyneve heals Logain I was thinking about the differances in male vs. female. Everyone seems to think that women cannot be restored to full power but men can. I was thinking it had to do more with WHO was doing the healing. I thought that maybe if a man was able to heal a woman she would be healed to full strength and if a man was healed by another man he would have something changed. Maybe in using the opposite power fixes something that is missing from ones own side?

Any thoughts?

Your right...theres definitely something about the genders here.

This might be a slightly wacky idea, but I think Siuan or Leane or maybe both one of them, are going to regain not just all their power, but will be a lot more powerful than they previously were.

I base this theory on four ideas

1. Who heals who and their new strength in the Power
The Aes Sedai(Sashlee or something like that) who was stilled by Rand and healed by Damer Flinn, has regained all her power. Logain was healed by Nynaeve, and has regained all his power. Its Siuan and Leane who were also healed by Nynaeve and haven't recovered all their power. So those who were stilled and healed both by the opposite gender have regained their full power. Those who were stilled and healed by the same gender haven't regained full strength.

2. Lanfears thoughts at the Cleansing
During the cleansing of the source when Lanfear comes across Alivia, she thinks something about how Alivia is stronger than she was(because of an angreal) and she was as strong in the power as it was possible for a female channeler to be. How does she know that she hit the limit? Shes speaking to herself, so theres no reason for deception, and it seems like a very strangely specific word choice. Wouldn't she be more likely to think how she'd never met anyone as strong or stronger than she, or something like that.

I think the reason she thinks this, is during her time as a researcher in the Age of Legends she spent her time studying the power, specifically finding a source that could be used by men and women both. I dot think its a stretch to say that in order to this she had to study both male and female halves of the power extensively. Is it not possible that during this study she realized something about how the male and female parts of the power work, a way to use the male half of the power on herself to increase her ability, maybe max it out?

3. The maximum utilization of the power comes with both men and women work together
Over and over and over again we have been told how the most impressive of Aes Sedai works were done using both sides of the power. The two truly momentous uses of the power we have seen is (1) Using the Bowl of Winds and (2) the cleansing of Saidin. In both of these cases both sides of the power were used.

4. What happens during stilling to Men and Women is fundamentally the same
Nynaeve was able to heal Siuan and Leane, using what she learnt form healing Logain. If different things happened i.e. the injury was different, I dont think that would be the case.

Ok so heres my grand theory to wrap it all together, and pardon me from talking out of my shadar hole if thats what it sounds like.

I believe Lanfear found a way to make herself more powerful. She did this by having a man use saidin on herself to magnify the amount of power she can hold. Its just question of finding the spot that Nynaeve and probably Flinn picked out to Heal and reinforcing that with the missing links. I dont think that someone who hasnt been stilled could have this done to them though, I think it could only happen if those missing links get exposed, which would happen during the stilling/gentling.

I do know that this is seriously out there...

>2 doshiamit: She did this by having a man use saidin on herself to magnify the amount of power she can hold.

I don't know that I can buy this... that just doesn't sound like Lanfear. Who (and what man, especially) would she trust to go messing around with the Power in her brain? And who would do that for her?

In my mind, I've always just taken it for granted that male have to heal females and vice versa when it comes to stilling/gentling. I don't know if it ever says that it the text, but I've always taken it for read.

My question is can Siuan and Leane be "re-healed" back up to full strength if they let a man heal them from where they are now? Is their set-point of "natural" strength level set at birth, or has it been re-set by the stilling and "botched" healing? What would happen if they were re-stilled and then healed by a man? Would they willingly submit to that? Would you?

I was under the impression that Suiane and Leane had not regained their full power because Nyneave used the same weave for them as for Logain, instead of adjusting for a female. I seem to remember mention of the yellows wanting to study it further and thinking they could it adapt it to women. But, it's been a while since I've read them, and I'm too lazy to try it find it...

fyrefly Yea...your right Lanfear wouldnt trust anyone, but what about before she was Lanfear? When Rand is talking to her he says how even as Mierin she was always obsessed with power.

The Lanfear part is probably a very dumb theory. I came up with it cause I was recently rereading the fight at Shadar Logoth during the cleansing, and Cyndanes POV just seemed strange.

But I do think that slightly different things happen to the same wound when Men and Women work with the power on it. And thats why when the opposite sex heals, it gets healed back to full stregnth.

Doshiamit, I think you may have swayed me to your way of thinking...

We know that cross gender Healing of severing is clearly beneficial to the one being healed.
I believe that this has to do with the two halves of the Power creating a synergy.

As to Lanfear...well I think it very likely that Mierin would entice a man to 'boost' her power. Interesting pov in Winter's Heart. (I went back and read it).
She seems to be incapable of believing that anyone can be stronger than her in the Power. This is strange. It's not simple arrogance or being full of herself.
Remember that Mierin was a researcher and wouldn't base a belief like that on heresay or her own opinion.

We get told that she and Beidomon were working on a 'new' Power source. We automatically assume that their starting point was the Bore. What if it wasn't?
What if they were 'boosting' Mieirin to see how far they could push her limit? Mieirin did not have the honorific third name. She was only Mieirn Eronail.
The MOST powerful Aes Sedai in her, for all practical purposes, Age?
Surely she would have been able to get the third name easily enough?

As to get someone (Beidomon?) to 'boost' her....well she's Lanfear. Hello the most beautiful woman ever.
I'm sure she would have found a way to convince him.

So yeah, I'm onboard.
We'll have to see if a male channeller would try to re-Heal Siuan and Leane, but I doubt it'll happen. They have the Power back. What more would they want?

Cool, I'm glad someone agrees with me, I suggested this to some friends who are into the Wheel of Time and they laughed at me.

Synergy is a good word too. It helps clarify the way I was thinking about this, especially in terms of Sashalee and Logain getting healed, and whats missing from Siuan and Leane.

And since Ive got you convinced MarcoGaidin, Im going to reread some stuff to see if I can make this theory a little stronger.

your theory on Beidomon makes sense, and before i read it, i was thinking she might have gotten Lews Therin to do it, he was amazingly strong and they were lovers.
