My book collection is small and very eclectic. An author must move me deeply for me to buy their book. I don't collect just for the sake of displaying well stocked shelves. I'm a great fan of D.Dunnet's books, and unless she can be resurrected from the cold Scottish ground, I am doomed forever to read books which just don't measure up to her extrodinary talent. Dumas and Doyle are close, as is Patrick O'Brien, but no cigar. Galbadon tried, but failed - big books, full of words, but Gabladon's books are stories, not literature. Not the kind of book that makes you want to howl with joy or slit your wrists in dispair, not the kind of book where time after time a turn of phrase so exactly and exquisitely captures the feel and meaning that you can smell and taste it, nor the kind of book where you must sit with several reference books and at least two English translation dictionaries at hand in order to "get" the references. Not for everyone, I know, but to me that's a real book - a Dorothy Dunnett book.

I am a person of leisure who loves to read. I live with my spouse and two dogs, Foxy and Spot, in a small golfing community in the DFW, TX. area. I am the product of a Catholic school education and the victim of extremely disturbed parents. And so, to escape both scenarios I turned to books at a very young age. Books are my oldest and dearest friends, and along with my three children, the source of my greatest joy.
