I'm an avid reader but by no means an academic. I tend to get into my own trends but that can mean "cheap" novels, "thick fiction" or liking an author. I'm using library thing as a way to track the books that I have read and get a sense of what others are reading. I tend to rate books really highly, until I read the next. I know pathetic. But what the heck. I try to leave a comment or two about books because I think it lends a perspective, which I tend to appreciate. Book reviews are qualitative and not quantitative. In my mind, there is nothing worse than seeing a one or five star but not knowing why it was rated that way. On the other hand, I like being forced into a rating scale. It makes me truly think about the value of the book.
