Josaphat-Robert Large was born in Jérémie (Haiti) on November 15 1942. He left Haiti under the Duvalier's dictatorship, at the very end of 1963. In New York, he studied English at Columbia University and Photography at New York Institute of Photography. He is a founding member of Theatre Group "Kouidor", together with Syto Cavé, Jacques Charlier and Hervé Denis. He published his first book (a collection of verses) in Paris, in 1975. His 3rd Novel "Les terres entourées de larmes" (Shore surrounded with tears) (L'Harmattan 2002), won the Carribean French literary Prize of 2003. Large is now the author of 10 books. 7 in French, 2 in Haitian Creole and 1 in English (translated by American poet Jack Hirschman). Josaphat-Robert Large lives in Saratoga Springs (NY) where he is a retired grandfather.
