My two principal collections of note are 1.) international editions of Alice in Wonderland; and 2.) all kinds of wonderful books on monastery libraries in German-speaking Europe.

With my wife Nina Barrett I founded Bookends & Beginnings, a new general-interest independent bookstore in Evanston, Illinois. I was formerly a librarian at Northwestern University and Purdue University, and before that at the International Youth Library in Munich.
