Personalities clash and relationships explode when Maggie is forced to choose between the man she’d hoped to marry and her dream of a career as a thoroughbred jockey. She learns the truth can be brutal, as she discovers some horsemen will do anything in pursuit of success, including using her as the means to an end. Still, there are others who want nothing but her affection.

A rodeo competitor and quarter horse jockey, Maggie grew up around quarter horses, as did her best friend, Johnny, a bronco rider who lives in California, and shares her passion for the rodeo. But when Maggie becomes involved with David, a thoroughbred owner and bloodstock agent, she is captivated by the high-strung racehorses and the excitement that surrounds David's association with them. David and Johnny are as different as the two breeds of horses. One is dependable and easygoing, while the other is unpredictable and headstrong. Maggie, however, is a combination of both. She's stubborn when she sets her mind on a goal, loyal to those she cares about, and determined to live her life her way. In order to follow her dream, Maggie leaves her home in New Jersey and travels to California. With Johnny's help, she finds a job with a trainer and starts racing his horses. But when David shows up, chaos follows, and she finds herself torn between the past and the present.

Although there are a few instances of the darker side of both racing and romance, the story is uplifting and ultimately makes the reader smile.
