This reader accompanies the Chinese Made Easier series. The first and second editions both have the same ISBN so make sure you get the revised edition (2008) because it is much improved. The book consists of fifteen chapters each of which contains information about one or two Chinese traditions or festivals. The big holidays are included (Spring, Dragon Boat, and Mid-Autumn Festivals) as well as lesser known ones (Double Ninth Festival) and other practices of historical note (e.g. foot binding, marriage, and education). As this is a Chinese reader it is important that students be able to read it! If you have completed CME through book 4 you should do fine. Each chapter includes definitions for vocabulary/characters not learned in CME. The back of the book includes full English translations of each story for reference if you get stuck.… (más)
