Helpful and still relevant to today's timing.

This book has some out of date verbiage but in all, helpful in setting up a routine to clean and manage a home. Fast read, easy to understand and helpful for first time home managers. Not just for women.

I'm not sure their program will work well for my home, but I did enjoy the book overall. There are a lot of honest, great stories, several of which made me laugh out loud. It's worth the read!

I remember reading this book in early 1988. It changed my housekeeping habits. About time to read it again!

This is a book to help one get and keep organized, particularly in the home. It is based on a system with index cards and a calendar. It takes some time to set up, and I am in the midst of doing so. It is focused on keeping up with daily tasks, weekly tasks, monthly, and even semi-yearly ones, and once these become a habit, the house will stay more organized.

The text of the book is basically the story of how the book came to be, and how it changed the lives and living spaces of the inventors of this system

It has a list of suggested cards at the back of the book, which is one of the book's strengths. I'm reading it on a Kindle, and not quite all columns for these cards fit on the Kindle page, which is one of the weaknesses of its translation to the electronic format.

It is not a "decluttering book" - it is system for achieving some order and maintaining it.

I am in the process of "phasing it in" - we'll see how well it works. But the concept is simple, straightforward, and appears eminently doable.

I really like this book and I really like the ideas and the background on how they started, but when I put it into action is when it didn't work for me. Maybe I put way too many tiny chores that I started to feel overwhelmed. If I skipped a day, I would have way too many chores the next day and would never be able to catch up.
This also happened with me with flylady.net which was even more overwhelming because it felt like ALL you did was clean all day.
I'm pretty sure if I chunk smaller chores into one card and have less chores in general it would have worked for me. I will probably try it again.
As of nowhat though, it did not help this sidetracked home executive.

Instead of reading this book, you're probably supposed to be doing something else. Maybe you're in a bookstore at the mall when you should be picking up vacuum cleaner bags at Sears. Or maybe you're propped up on your bed reading and you should be starting dinner. One woman in a small midwestern town wrote and said that she "accidentally" ran into one of our books. She had locked herself out of her house in bare feet and no coat. It was the dead of winter and her first thought was the "warm" library that was just a block from her home. Once inside, she called her husband to bring her a key and made a decision to get organized. The librarian, able to size up the reader, led the trembling, shoeless woman to our book.

This book was written in the 1990s and the idea of using a card file to organise your house cleaning rota is rather outdated, as I am sure you can get an app to do that nowadays, but the general idea still holds good. I really liked the idea of keeping your house tidy by marking out of place items with coloured dots and having weekly fines for infractions, with the money raised being given to the person with least infractions that week, but unfortuately that isn't likely to work when you live alone. You can tell that this is an American book, as a British book on the subject wouldn;t be likely to have all the references to God an dpraying.½

Cute, and entertaining. I'm going to try using their out-dated card system with my computer. Outlook seems to have the ability to do everything the card box would do, but easier and without adding more clutter from the box and index cards.

There is a fundamental problem with all organization books: they all assume that the system that worked for them is the best one for everyone. That's what I learned from reading every single one of them. There is no best system. It's like parenting, it's about whatever is best for you.

I love this book. For years, I've quoted sections to disorganized family and coworkers. It's very funny and very practical even 30+ years later!½

While the blurb on the book touts that it has been 'updated and revised', ultimately, I just didn't feel that this was really current enough to spark my interest. Maybe that's more a reflection on me, and not so much the content in the book, but still...I just couldn't finish this.

I read this every 2 or 3 years, just to crack up and annoy my family by reading huge sections aloud.

This is a book for truly sidetracked people, and if the advice is followed it really works!

Hmm why did I get this? Well as some of you may know I have depression one of my chief aids in recovering from this is the Flylady site and mailing list.. Every day she tells me to get up. to shine my sink. clean my toilet wash my clothes etc trust me without her I would be in the next series of house from Hell. The mailing are Far better than these deeply meaning full volumes on how to raise your self essteem. And be happy. Now she has written a few motivational books of her own but has always been careful to credit her system of organising and cleaning to the above authors so when I found myself looking to buy a book about organising the housework I went to them. And, well the systems have grown apart but their advice is good sound advice that I am sure would work maybe better than Flyladies . The trouble is it does not motivate me like Flylady can..

This is another book that really helped me start off on the right foot with motherhood. My mom gave it to me, and it really helped me become the organized person I am today.
