Clayton Wood

This was suggested to me by a friend as "a modern day Pratchett", well it's nothing at all like it, more like what Pratchett would have been if he lacked imagination and replaced it with crude humour, and there's nothing particularly modern about it, in fact I can't think of anything original about it at all.
I slogged through the first third of the book hoping the plot would eventually get anywhere; when the story finally started to actually have some action in it I muddled through another third, but gave up at the climax of the the first big battle scene, asking myself why I was wasting time with something unimaginative, trite and not particularly well written (not to mention it's just the first of a 5-book series, so most likely it will not even have a proper ending) when I have more than 50 books in my queue.
