Barclay Wills (1877–1962)

I found this hidden gem on my farm shelf - don't remember where I got it but it's delightful. The prose is simple and elegant, the art is amazing and the photographs document a passed era. Basically the story the the few remaining Downland shepherds in Sussex in the first third of the 20th century. The author is something of an antiquarian, with interests ranging from birds to sheep to Neolithic artifacts. A fascinating and fun read - highly recommended.
