The library copy of this I checked out did not come with the pattern pieces, which makes the book fairly useless, but I could see myself using the basic skirt pattern (with pockets!) otherwise, and the jackets were cute too. I didn't care for the top on the tunics/dresses, and these were all the same, so I probably wouldn't make that. Still, there are some good how-to basics at the beginning that a novice (or even fairly intermediate) sewist would find helpful.

Spiral bound. 12 projects with variations. Sections on tips, techniques, and resources. Pull out patterns included. Text heavy with diagrams for nearly all steps. Progressively more difficult.

Contains several basic patterns: a skirt, top, dress, jacket, and a lot of ideas on how to personalize and use them. The patterns come in a wide range of sizes. The styles would appeal to a variety of ages, but particularly the teen to young women age group. Great basic book, with some fun art to wear ideas.

I can't wait to try some of the patterns in this book! Kay Whitt does a nice job of making sewing clothes accessible to novices, and the fabrics she uses in her demos are absolutely scrumptious. There are many pictures and diagrams throughout, so readers are both shown and told how to do things step by step in a very nonthreatening manner. I am looking forward to her next book, dealing with purses and bags (some of my favorite things to sew!)
