This is a "life and Times" biography: it is primarily a review of "duckies" reform efforts in the years of the Progressive Movement, World War I, the Roaring Twenties and the Great Depression but it is much more than that it is also an analysis of his personality, was that if his wife Rebe; it is a nostalgic view of middle-class family life in those years; and it is a recall of how interesting life was on Swarthmore's campus in the days of presidents Swain, Aydelotte, and Nason.
