Reese introduced this book as revolutionary and ground-breaking. A system of leads against notrump, and another against suit. What makes the book interesting is that it is replete with examples of cardplay which by themselves rate top-notch. To be sure, the marginal benefit of one system of leads versus another, in one card layout versus another may be debated, but the extra edge a sophisticated system such as Vinje or Journalist leads gives is well worth the extra effort spent by a partnership. In fact, even if you do not adopt the main prescription, there are plenty of goodies such as leading K then A or A then K from a odd or even holding.
Good defensive leads and good switches should be dictated by logic of bridge, not convention. Still, this is one of my "Desert island" books.… (más)
