When Jeanette and Janine, twin sisters from sole, south Korea go to the international convention For adoption. Jeanine is nervous, while Jeanette is a social butterfly making friends and meeting people. Their adopted American dad loves them as if they were his biological children. So their search is it to fulfill a paternal longing, but a cultural curiosity. They want to know about the people that come from and the international adoption convention is the first step. This is a truly uplifting, inspirational book. I know people say that but in this case it is totally true. Janine is totally lovable and her writing style is so comfortable. You really do not want to put the book down. They heard they were found in a box on a street corner and soul, will they find out the truth or do they know the truth already. You really do need a Kleenex warning you will need them for happy and sad tears, but just know the book is so worth reading.… (más)

The Search for the Mother Missing by Janine Vance is a touching, sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes encouraging, and uplifting book. Janine and her twin sister were adopted at birth by an American Family. They were from Korea but their whole life they only knew American Culture. Janine even mentions at times she never stopped to think about her Korean heritage and sometimes was in awkward situations because other Koreans didn’t understand why she didn’t know anything about her heritage. In adulthood Janine and her twin sister decide to take a trip to Korea to try and find their family. Their adopted father is not thrilled by this idea and says, “I am your family.” As they set out on their journey they go through many twists and turns and learn a lot. I also learned a lot from this book and have a greater appreciation for adoptees, especially those who are international adoptees. There is so much to take into consideration – do you look for your biological parents, do the adopters talk to their adopted children about their culture and are they open to their adopted children looking for their biological parents? There can be so much uncertainty and fear when an adoptee does decide to look for their biological parents and it can affect the entire family. I think this book will be very helpful for others who have been adopted and may have similar experiences to Janine and her twin sister and let them know they are not alone. I fell in love with Janine right away and thought her writing is really well and she grabs your attention from the first chapter. I was routing for Janine and her sister from the beginning. I cried, I laughed, I smiled, as I read this emotional book.… (más)

The Search for Mother Missing is a beautiful story about twin sisters Janine and Jenette who embark on a trip to their native land South Korea. This convention held for adoptees allows for adoptees to connect and for some search for their birth parents. As Jenette uses her huge bulky camera to document the trip she spots out every set of twins who attended the events. Janine accidentally learns of the unspoken yet known dark side of adoption. As the sisters try to obtain their own records they are treated poorly and given next to no information. Janine does a wonderful job at a steady pace bringing you through her journey of this trip. I especially enjoyed when Janine flirts with the Ostrich haha.

More needs to be shared in all the sides of adoption locally and internationally. People need to be aware. Mothers need options, Truth needs to shown with a spot light. I found this book to be fascinating.

Janine Vance's memoir Searching For Mother Missing is a riveting story and a deeply moving account of an adoptee in search of her birth parents. Janine brings to life each step in this often painful and frustrating journey to uncover parts of her identity. I just couldn’t stop turning pages to find out what would happen next. I pictured each scene as Janine has such a knack for giving us telling details. I imagine these are a tribute to her creativity as a writer.

I was blown away by Vance's story and I feel privileged to have read it. I felt this story on deeply personal levels. My heart breaks for all the children of closed adoptions who may never know their story, and I found myself cheering for Janine and her twin as the layers shrouding their story were slowly peeled away. I got through the whole book in only three days. I’m sure other readers will enjoy this story even if you've never met an adoptee, let alone are one yourself. A highly recommended read.… (más)
