This is a valuable book if you are a beginner both at teaching and teaching online. Others might find the checklist approach useful as well. I think the best use for this book is not read cover-to-cover, but alongside as one creates and designs an online class. Again, the checklists are more useful that way. The authors refer to the website that accompanies the book. Don't bother. As time of writing, there is almost nothing useful on the website (I find this one of the most frustrating things about academic publishers: their promising a lot of goodies for instructors on websites, when, in reality, there is very little content of value).
So keep this book around to refer to it from time to time, to determine if you have covered all your bases in online course development and / or revisions.
If you are an advanced designer / online instructor, you probably don't need this at all.

If you are brand-new to teaching -- either in the classroom or online -- this book provides foundational information. If you have experience teaching, it is less helpful.

Very quick read.
