Janet Penrose Trevelyan

Just reading through this interesting memoir written by the daughter of a activist anti-suffragette, found at a used book store. It's fascinating to meet this woman - highly educated, the founder of the first women's college at Oxford, an activist in all sort of areas, but for some reason an anti-sufragette who calls herself by her husband's name as if she never had a first name of her own. Her daughter penned this story, and is agog with admiration at her mum, but questions nothing. I am intrigued by the motivation of these women. Haven't got to the suffragette movement yet, but curiosity fills me. How can someone stand up for education of women and yet not want them to have input into government?
