I remember this book as being as readable as the Three Musketeers and the "Angelique" books, thogh a little heavy on the Catholic Hugenot split in the reign of louis XIV. But, as a Lutheran, it was interesting. A bastard of a rich French nobleman, stays alive, and eventually becomes the heir to the title. the book was published in Germany in 1958, and the English translation by 1963.
