A truly lovely and interesting book, but so very mid-1960s American, with recipes like Creamed Eggs and Seafood using cans of all sorts of things. The idea is important: days are holy, honour them in daily cooking, The book is well written and the inclusion of the favourite recipes of Saint Pope John XXIII (an absolutely authentic polenta) and Pope Paul VI (a very much adapted for mid-century Americans risotto), straight from authorised Vatican sources, is brilliant. But I already have A Continual Feast by Evelyn Vitz on my shelf and use it continually as my go-to resource for food honouring Christian feasts and fasts, so this little book is surplus to requirements.½
