This book really describes what is needed when caring for a family member who has suffered a debilitating illness. Robin, Marquess of Tavistock (later 14th Duke of Bedford) suffered a severe stroke. His wife, Henrietta, was galvanized into action and made his recovery as smooth as possible. The book takes us step by step through the illness and we come to a better understanding of the level of care that is needed in helping a stroke survivor.

The things I love about this book are the many personal touches/quotes given by members of the family. There are different points of view within the family. Robin's father had a very difficult time in coming to terms with his son's illness. Henrietta acknowledges this in the book, but then her father-in-law is given a chance to explain what the time was like for him. I like this. It truly shows there are two sides to every coin and two versions of every story.

A very well-rounded book. I loved learning about the Tavistocks (later Duke and Duchess of Bedford) and how their marriage and life was different pre and post stroke.

Well done.
