Louise Sutherland

While it has been many years since I read this remarkable story, it is still a part of my permanent library. Ths is is the true story of one woman's solo travel across South America, from Belem, Brazil to Cruzerio de Sol, Peru, via the Trans-Amazon Highway.

When Ms Sutherland did this ride in the early 1980's, many portions of the highway were a highway in name only. In addition to battling the elements and mechanical problems, she batted health problems along the way as well. I was lucky enough to meet the author when she spoke at a bicycle club in Tucson in 1987. I have an autographed copy of her book.… (más)
