Not So New In Town by Michele Summers is a super cute and zany small town novel. With a cast of wacky but loveable characters, an appealing storyline and a steamy romance, this second installment in the Harmony Homecomings series is a delightfully charming read.

Lucy Doolan's homecoming is off to an discouraging beginning when her car breaks down outside of town and the good Samaritan who stops to assist her is none other than her one time crush (and her stepsister's ex-boyfriend) Brogan Reese. She has returned home temporarily to concentrate on reviving her career while taking care of her evil stepsister Julia and teenage nephew Parker. The last thing she needs is to reconnect with Brogan but when Parker needs a mentor, she finds herself spending quite a bit of time with the sexy entrepreneur. Lucy is dismayed to discover her long ago crush has morphed into a serious case of lust, but given the history between them, she has no intention of acting on her attraction.

Lucy is funny, vivacious and incredibly smart. She has high hopes that her short stay in Harmony will give her the opportunity to mend her relationship with her stepsister, but Julia does not make things easy on her. She is looking forward to spending time with Parker, but her sweet nephew has turned into a surly teen who cannot seem to stay out of trouble. Having recently ended a bad relationship with a loser who took advantage of her sweet nature, Lucy is not interested in beginning another one, but when she accepts a lucrative job offer from Brogan, the sexual tension between them continues to grow.

Brogan is a really nice man but he has more than his fair share of emotional baggage. His unresolved past continues to haunt him and he has serious commitment issues. While he was once the town's golden boy, old gossip about him and Julia is still swirling around so he is having trouble getting customers into his new health food store. Desperate to save the business so he can move on, Brogan finally convinces Lucy to accept his job offer and her creative marketing strategy quickly pays off.

Brogan and Lucy work well together and the lines between their personal and professional lives soon blur. Brogan is a frequent visitor at Lucy's house and they also spend long hours together at the health food store. Their friends have easily picked up on their interest in one another and they devise some pretty inventive schemes to throw them together. Brogan and Lucy finally give in to their attraction, and they agree to a no strings fling. Their interludes are very steamy and while both begin to realize their feelings run deeper than lust, neither is willing to admit it to the other. An unexpected complication arises at the same Brogan comes face to face with his past and the future of their relationship is soon in jeopardy.

Not So New In Town is a marvelous addition to the Harmony Homecomings series. Lucy and Brogan are wonderfully developed, three-dimensional protagonists with realistic issues to overcome. The secondary cast of characters is quite colorful and their quirkiness adds to the story's appeal. The storyline is quite engaging and although mostly light-hearted, there are also real problems to solve. Michele Summers brings the setting vibrantly to life and she fully captures all the nuances of small town living. All in all, it is a witty romance that old and fans of the series are sure to love.

ARC Review: Sweet Southern Trouble by Michele Summers

Nick and Marabelle are magically delicious. She's the sugar, he's the spice. Put them together and they make for the hottest of vices. Sweet Southern Trouble is an organic blend of humor, heart and smart writing. Ms. Summers has a lock on temperature rising, incredibly entertaining down home southern charm. When it comes to romance author, characters and story delivers a one, two punch to the heart.

It is gratifying when an author can entertain and rearrange commonplace stereotypes. Ms. Summers stirs up some serious sex appeal while delivering a sassy ball of laughs and heart along the way. Within the pages of Sweet Southern Bad Boy lies heated encounters, cuddly troublemakers and an aura of irresistible fun. To babysit or not to babysit? Kids, a man in over his head and a major dose of tender humour. That's just the recipe for a fun filled afternoon courtesy of a clueless duo. Definitely something to talk about.

"5 out of 5 stars!! Under the pretense of getting Nick (Nicholas), the head coach of the North Carolina Cherokees, to allow her access to Nick’s team for her school's planned bachelor auction Marabelle (Tinker Bell/Mary-bell/Thumbelina) agrees to the ruse of being his fiancée. However, every time Nick and Marabelle are together, sparks fly and they quickly find that their relationship is progressing rapidly and into something VERY real. That is if Marabelle can get over her own securities, Nick can get over his past, and if someone from Nick's recent "past" doesn't get in their way....

Wow!! Out of the three novels I've read in Ms. Summers' Harmony Homecomings Series (which have been Books 2, 3, & 4) THIS one is by far my favorite!!! Especially since though it was written from multiple viewpoints (even those other than Nick and Marabelle) the main focus is always about Nick and Marabelle so I never got distracted. YAY! Also, even though I am not a fan of wishy-washy characters, which Marabelle definitely is, the plotline moved on so quickly that I never had time to get annoyed with her because of it, which made me enjoy Marabelle as a character more. Double YAY!!

This is one..."

Ok, This must be the first time that I truly did not want the heroine to fall in love with the suppose hero. I did not like Keith, and let me tell you why. Keith was a widower, and when his wife died, instead of taking care of his daughter, she was in a boarding home why he went on drinking, partying, and whoring, yet he claims he loves her so.. Now his wonderful Aunt has layed down the law, and because she loves him, decides to blackmail him, now I can tell you how, but I wont you need to read it. Now we have Bertie, and she is awesome and truly wonderful, sweet woman, and unfortunately meets Keith, and they both think they are other people when they first come in contact, and of course there is that instant attraction, but they do fight it. Bertie, should have kept fighting it. Keith is judgmental, and he truly does not deserve her, he thinks she is a bad influence on his daughter, and does not really want her near her, he constantly insults her, apologizes, insults, apologizes, insults, apologizes, you get the drift. She does not dress provocatively, but with the type of body that she has, it just looks so, so even though he does not want to want her, he does, but just for a good time. Bertie, needs the money that it takes to decorate Keith's house, to help some poor people, and she knows that Keith is actively on the lookout to get married and that she is not in the running, but she can not help her attraction to him, so unfortunately they act upon that attraction, so of course, he cheats on his so called girlfriend, and after he gets what he wants from poor Bertie, he dumps her.. Breaks her heart, then shows up with his milquetoast girlfriend, god I wanted to slap him, I really really wanted her to find someone else, someone that deserved her, because it was not Keith. I dont care how many times, he said that he wanted someone for his daughter, that was bull, his daughter did not like Gail, they didn't get along, and he was having problems with Maddie, because of it, and then he acts like he decided not to get married to someone he didn't love, when it was Gail, Gail who broke it off. Yeah!, Now don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the book, I did like Liza, the supposed nemesis, who wasn't and I am hoping for a book for her, and Cal, and I did like Gary, I liked everybody else, just not Keith.

Sweet Southern Trouble by Michele Summers
Source: Netgalley
My Rating: 5/5 stars
My Review:

The title of this one really does tell the whole story!! If there is trouble to be found, Marabelle Fairchild is not only going to find it, she’s going to dive into it with her eyes wide open and her mouth, that has no edit button, open and going a mile a minute.

There is very little that goes through Marabelle’s mind that doesn’t come out her mouth and in her latest episode of verbal diarrhea, she’s gotten herself into one hell of a mess. In order to secure her future at the ultra-posh private school she works for, Marabelle has landed herself in the middle of organizing the school’s yearly fundraiser. She’s been tasked with enlisting the help – OK, the hotness – and financial backing of the Carolina Cherokees, the local pro football team. Everyone assumes Marabelle is going to fail and there are some on the committee who are actively working against Marabelle. Turns out, when you have a mind and a mouth that often run free, you make a few enemies.

Nick Frasier is an ex-pro football player turned pro coach and uncle to a rambunctious kindergartner. That rambunctious kindergartner is part of the reason Nick has been called to Marabelle’s classroom and currently being all but accosted by the feistiest woman he has ever met. On top of telling him his nephew is tiny turd, Marabelle has asked him for help with the school fundraiser. Aside from being blindsided by her request, Nick is pretty much blown away by Marabelle and in the beginning, that blown away is not in a good way. Marabelle is like a tiny tornado with no off switch and determination like Nick has never seen. In fact, once Marabelle has an idea, she’s fairly relentless and isn’t long before she’s introduced herself to a group of Nick’s players and begun wooing them to her cause. It sure doesn’t hurt that Marabelle cooks for the boys 😊

What Marabelle doesn’t know about Nick is that he needs her as much as she needs him. Nick has a great deal of pressure on him from the Cherokee’s management to settle down and improve his public persona. The best way to do that is to strike a deal with Marabelle, the one woman he could never, ever actually fall for. If Marabelle agrees to be his fake fiancé, Nick and the boys will help her pull off the best fundraiser the school has ever seen! As you would expect with such an arrangement, all kinds of shenanigans ensue including a raucous meeting of the parents, a vicious tennis tournament, a heinous ex-girlfriend with nefarious plans, and more than a few words left unspoken.

The Bottom Line: I absolutely fell in love with this read. It has everything a romantic comedy should have: a crazy-awesome girl, a hot southern gentleman, a ridiculous fake engagement, meddling yet well-intentioned friends, and some harpies working against the happy couple. This is a funny, hot mess kind of read populated with a cast of crazies that I just devoured. There are certainly some naughty bits in this read, but they are appropriate to the overall sweet nature of this read. In all, Sweet Southern Trouble is a pretty perfect read and I am sincerely hoping Michele Summers will give the rest of the men on the Carolina Cherokees team their own book and their own HEA!

Received an ARC for my fair review for netgalley. I loved this book, Marabelle was great. I did enjoy Nick as her love interest, but I absolutely loved his team, Beau was awesome, Tyler was good and Rocker. Then we have the others Elizabeth, her friend and her sister. What a fun cast of characters, they all added spice to the story. I truly had fun reading this, and I hated the villain, Ginger, which shows you how good the writing is, when you hate the person you are supposed to hate.. Reading you will not be disappointed.

"4 out of 5 stars!! Katie (Kathryn) has been called a free-spirit most of her life, though the term wasn’t one of endearment and it was something she always tried to curb because of her parents domineering ways. Therefore, when she meets Vance it is under the guise of trying to have him sign a contract so she’ll have the rights to use his house and land in one of her father’s upcoming movie productions as an attempt to get into good light with her Dad. Yet what seems so simple at first, turns into controlled chaos when Vance and Katie get into another arrangement all together. Now with their lives pushed together, they find shared common ground, shared passions, but what will happen with them once their deadline arrives and their arrangement ends? Will they find that being together is truly where their hearts are at, or is moving on best for the both of them?

An unexpected delight that knocked me out of left field. I had been hearing about this novel non-stop for a while, and because I really enjoyed Ms. Summers’ "Not So New In Town" (Book 2), I was excited to check this novel out too. Yet though it had the charming dynamic, I anticipated from a Ms. Summers novel I was surprised when the plot hits you sideways and takes you on a ride that you didn’t foresee coming. All in all..."

Thanks to Goodreads' FirstReads for my complimentary review copy.

Katie McKnight is a location scout for her father's company, McKnight Studios. She comes upon a remote barn house in the small southern town of Harmony, the perfect setting for their upcoming teen vampire miniseries. Her repeated knocking brings her face-to-face with Vance Kerner, who, to Katie resembles a sexy pirate. "Pirate Man" immediately assumes she is the nanny sent by the agency. Although a bestselling author, he is currently responsible for, and overwhelmed by, the care of his brother's three kids. Hearing that he is running late for a meeting and hoping to win him over, Katie offers to watch his nephews. This earns her his gratitude and...a kiss.

The story, told from the points of view of both Katie and Vance, gives the reader a sense of each's backstory and take on events. Besides the main protagonists, there are several quirky and memorable peripheral characters that were fun to meet. They all had their distinct personalities. Summers' writing style is very readable. She uses simple language and vivid descriptions. The humor interspersed throughout provides comic relief from the more serious, emotional parts.

Katie and Vance come from different worlds. Vance grew up in a small town, while Katie was raised in glamorous Hollywood. But family dysfunction doesn't discriminate and is something they have in common and bond over. Early on, the chemistry and sexual tension between them is off the charts. The reader eagerly anticipates the eventual break and, when it inevitably comes, the scenes are passionate and very graphic.

Overall, I loved this book. I looked forward to reading it. I wanted to finish it, and yet I didn't, so am having somewhat of a book hangover. I did feel the ending was a bit rushed, unsatisfying, and incomplete. I wanted just a bit more of Katie and Vance. That being said, I very much enjoyed my first title by Summers and was thrilled that an excerpt from her upcoming Sweet Southern Trouble was included at the end.

"4 out of 5 stars!! Lucy heads back to her hometown with hopes to reinvent herself after a bad breakup and help her rude older stepsister while she's on bed rest. Once home she finds herself floundering to try to keep her teenage nephew's life on track and trying to settle into small town life again. That is until Brogan (her old high school crush and her stepsister's ex-boyfriend) makes it his mission to have them help each other out, him with her nephew and her with marketing his new business. However, old habits die-hard and it soon becomes apparent that her crush for him is alive and well. The good news is it's reciprocated too. Yet as they both have plans to leave town after a few months will their romance be just a fling or turn into something more?

With some surprising twists and a whole lot of charm, this novel keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole way through."

A cute romance set in a small town where you can't hide anything.

Bertie is full of life, and has way too many things to do. I liked her as she was fun, loved her job and was nice.

Keith, oh Keith, I mean he was nice and all but I so wanted to kick him in the balls. Not cos he was evil or anything but just stupid. See his aunt has told him to get marry in 3 months. So what does he do? He goes after the safe girl who he feels nothing for. The woman he would be tired of after a week. But it's the woman who bakes, is happy and safe. Oh men! While Bertie has too big boobs, dances and sings too much. *kicks him*. But we all know hey will get together in the end. Just the way there is long as he does not see that what is before him is perfect.

The way there is fun though, everyone except him and Bertie can see they should be together. There are misunderstandings, passion and a fun town to read about,

fun
