On the positive side, the concept has a lot of potential. When the author described a flying squirrel with a jet pack I was already amused. The illustrations are also wonderfully colorful and give the book an almost abstract feel.
Unfortunately, the negative side of this book far outweighs the positive. The illustrations, while they are colorful and abstract vary wildly in quality. For every clever picture there's one with the protagonist looking more or less like a drowned rat. Many young readers I fear wouldn't even be able to tell they were looking at a squirrel at all. Further, the text does not read like a children's book. There are frequent grammatical and spelling mistakes and the sentence structure is dazzlingly complex given the age of the readers who would be expected to read it.
In summary, there's the seed of a good idea here but it needs a lot more development. This book is not ready for prime time yet without some textual revision and some adjustment on the illustrations."… (más)
