A chronicle covering the period 201-1189 AD, although the earlier part of the chronicle (and larger part in terms of size) mainly comprises transcripts of Abingdon Abbey charters, 687-1066. There are fewer charters and more narrative after 1066. The earliest manuscript has been dated to the first half of the 13th century. The documents preserved in this work illustrate political and ecclesiastical history, institutional life, and the social condition of the people. The narrative portions, though dealing mainly with the monastery, also give some information concerning the general affairs of the kingdom.… (más)
