- Charles Ellery Stedman was the author of an unpublished genealogy of the Stedman family that is in manuscript at the NEHGS library.
He earned his M. D. in 1855. Moved to Dorchester in 1857. He was an Assistant Surgeon with the U. S. Navy from Sept. 16, 1861, to April 27, 1865, during the Civil War. He was a Physician at Boston City Hospital starting in 1871. He had been vice-president of the Massachusetts Medical Society.
