These Broken Stars is a YA dystopian sci-fi by Australian author Amie Kaupfman, set in outer space, the first in a series.

The story begins aboard the spaceship Icarus which is suddenly and catastrophically yanked out of hyperspace. Spoilt rich girl Lilac LaRoux and war hero Tarver Merendsen find themselves as survivors on a strange new planet. The setting seems to be predominantly the backdrop for a fairly stereotypical enemies-to-lovers romance. Lilac is the annoying pampered princess with high-heels, an evening gown and an I’m-better-than-you attitude, but turns out to be tougher than she looks. Tarver felt like a cardboard cutout American military hero full of toughs and machoism. I really didn’t like either of them and didn’t really care that she was cold and needed him to lend her his jacket and put his arm around her. Maybe it will improve in the next book and they might even explain the premise or story behind the world they are in. 2 stars for me, sorry, just not my jam.

Nice read with a couple of twists. Audiobook only read--loved the narrators.

Flipping through before I start reading to make sure nothing stands out, that I wouldn't want to read I found too much bad language. :( So back to the library the book goes.

I thought this was again a really different science fiction novel. I really liked both characters POV. I also really like the battle between science and magic and how that occurred. I also like the rep of different sexual path in this story and hope we get more of that in future books. I also thought this was super fast pace towards the end. I liked this book, but sometimes struggled with the smaller cast of characters. I will def be checking out book 2. I liked this book but it was not my favorite by them.

I loved this sequel. I thought the was such a unique science fiction read. I have never read story like this before. I also really did loved both main characters in the story. I really also liked the romance that developed more in this book. I also really liked the side characters that we got to meet in this read. I did think the ending was a bit rushed but overall a solid read!!

This book was a perfect conclusion and especially in regards to the screen time all the characters got. i felt like every character got ending. I adored meeting the new characters and to see how all these characters were interconnected in the end. Such a strong ending.

Con-artist and computer hacker work together to stop a mad billionaire. It's got interdimensional aliens, a love story, teamwork, a space princess and her soldier boyfriend along with the rebel and soldier from the second book. Really enjoyed it, and it was a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy.

Also, one plot point that bothered me from the first book about Lilac was made more clear in this book. So, yay for that. (Either because planned or made to fit, don't care, still great.)

Also great, with new characters and interesting conflicts. This one is set on a planet with stalled terraforming, with a rebel leader and an establishment soldier coming to know one another.

Really good. Loved the interaction between the personalities of the two mains, and it was well well written and very entertaining. Interested to see where this is going.

I am a sucker for a fairytale retelling, and even more so when it's Beauty and the Beast.
I truly enjoyed this book. Making Yeva a hunter and capable in her own right. Having a mix of previous versions of the story, and a believable progression in the relationship between the two. So good.
My only gripe is that I wanted a little more from the ending, as in how things turn out. Also I'd liked a bit more of the father's downward spiral at the beginning of the book, but those are minor complaints.

4.5/5

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this book, but it wasn't quite what I thought it would be. It ended up being even better. A unique premise with excellent execution. The world building was phenomenal, and the pacing was even, which made this a very quick read. The characters were well written and likeable.

I can definitely recommend this YA sci fi-romance, and I look forward to seeing where the story goes in the next book in the series.

5/5 stars.

Wow! What an exhilarating finale.

It was weirdly really hard for me to concentrate through this one but I wonder if that again speaks to my lack of ability to read smartish things on my phone. Sofia might be my favourite of them all. I'm just so impressed that the authors crafted not only one, but three love stories that I shipped (ha! shipped!) SO so hard. All of these gave me so many butterflies and the unconditional love that they all felt seemed real.

The ending was a tad corny and a bit on the nose and the messaging wasn't even remotely subtle, but I absolutely adored it anyway.

I loved the Iranian song and I loved the world building and I loved this trilogy so very very much. I'm actually so glad I'm picking them up long after first publication because I wouldn't have enjoyed them half as much had I had to wait a year in between.

OH. OH. OH. I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING. OHMYGOTH. NO WAY.
Called it.
Oh wait. No I didn't. Brother? Huh. That is an elegant solution because ya can't have two soul mates.

I had to pause halfway through this to ensure that I had immediate access to the sequels because I knew if I didn't I would be upset.

That almost death though. I was almost upset--I could feel myself feeling like I should be crying--but it was just too apparent that something would happen and she'd be fine. Honestly kind of an eh.

Mysterious premise and mysterious worldbuilding with just enough details to bring intrigue. Love the concept of terraforming. (Well, not really, but in a fictionalised sense.)

I can't remember who told me to read this, but thank you why did it take me so long?! This is a really well done. This might be one I think back to in two weeks and see problems with, but throughout reading this I was excited to be immersed in the story, and that is a gorgeous feeling. And I'm excited to be reading the next ones!

"You know he's falling in love with you, right?"
"They all think they’re in love with me at some point or another.”

My reaction when we saw Tarver: TARRRRVEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

UPDATE 20/02/2021 - Review added

Well I think this needed to have about 20% edited out. We could probably start with the lingering stares and the admiring of each others bodies. Then it would have indeed been much more like Indiana Jones or National Treasure set on another planet! I would have liked a bit more puzzle solving too. A fun read that just needed a little more focus and a tighter telling of a very very cool story.

UPDATE 17/02/2021 - Rereading in preparation for reading book 2.
