712. The Tiger in the Senate: The Biography of Wayne Morse, by A. Robert Smith (read 27 Oct 1962) I was a great admirer of Wayne Morse even before he was elected to the Senate. This book was critical of him in some respects and to that extent I disapproved of the book. The book of course was written before he and Senator Gruening voted against the Gulf of Tonkin resolution--the only two people in Congress who were "right from the start." Which reminds me that Senator McGovern once had supporters who blazoned their support since he was 'right from the start" and a perspicacious onlooker asked "Who are you supporting--Morse or Gruening?"
