Martyn Skinner (1906–1993)

I don't know that I have ever seen this game played more prettily. The 'panorama of the gnome' and that whole passage on p. 43 is really exquisite: also the gravely authoritative pedigree of the mice on pp 15 and 16; and the ultra-whimsical simile of the word Egypt on p. 46. I have been trying to find out why stones of thread on the first page is so much more effective than threads of stone would have been.
