I have always loved this song, but to read the book is even better. It is simple and direct. It is children wanting to be accepted for who and what they are on any given day. It is an important lesson for all children to learn, to have empathy for those that are different because our world would be boring if we were all the same!

She played this book on youtube and it was paired with a country song.... interesting. A book that makes you think about how you treat other people. Talks about different ways people judge one another and how we should be kind to everyone.

This book includes the words to a song. The reader does not know they are a song until the very end where you can see the music sheet with the same words. The reader is able to see how bullying can make the person feel. I read this book to a first grade class and they were engaged from the beginning. One student said it made them feel very sad, it made him feel like he could cry. The book included a CD with the song, so I played it for them after reading the book and they all enjoyed it. The book allows an adult to speak to a child about what bullying is and how it affects the person. The illustrator lets the reader see the kind of child that may be bullied because of their looks...which can be any of us.

Summary: This book tells the story of children who stand out from the majority of the students and who would be identified as "different" and/or unique. It clearly shows what it's like for children to be laughed at and to be called names by others.

Reflection: Through illustrations that express the emotions that each child is experiencing and the repetition of the author's words, we can see the effect of how being rude, mean, or excluding someone from an activity negatively affects a person's character, emotions, and sense of being. This is an excellent book with a wonderful message! Also, there is a CD that comes with the book and I found a video of the song/book online. A picture book of a song by the same name that addresses the pain of being different and being teased or ignored. Not too pedantic either, just a plain simple message.

I loved this book. My eyes teared up reading it. It has very little words but such a strong and powerful meaning.

This book describes kids who look different from others and causes them to be "uncool" and picked on my bullies. The message in the book is great. It should be read by everyone. Just because some one may look or act different does not make them less of a person. Like the book says "you don't have to be my friend, but is it too much to ask don't laugh at me?" I was attracted to this book because of the title. I remember hearing a country song with the same title when I was younger and it turns out the song actually comes along with the book. From what I hear, children really enjoy the cd. I would defiantly use this book in my classroom for younger students to teach them about bullying from the very beginning.½

The message is priceless

This book talks about some people who are looked down by people and they have no self-confidence. Many people laugh at them, it makes them feel unhappy, so they say 'don't laugh at me' because everyone is different. It's like a song, some children may feel the same. K-3.

This book is about kids who were made fun of because of the way they looked. But deep down inside, we are all the same and should be treated equally.

"Don't Laugh At Me" is one of the cutest children's books I've ever read. It's a few short lines of poetry dedicated to children who have been bullied or were the bully. It says to all kids that in actuality we are all the same. We all may look different but God made us. This teaches children to not tease one another.

This book shows that even if you are different it does not mean it is right to be laughed at. This book can teach that bullying is not just.

Don't laugh at me is a great read aloud book. It is about how we should not be mean to anyone even if they are not like you. This books shows the feelings of children who are treated badly and bullyed. This is a short book, but i think everyone, even older children should read it. The illustrations show great detail and make the book believable when he illustrated the characters.

This book is about different children with disabilities, glasses, and braces. It explains that everyone is different and that everyone should be respected even so. A great tool when facing bullying issues in the classroom. It would be a great book to read aloud to teach about bullying or just to keep in the class for children to read for their own pleasure.

This book is an adaptation of a song which has become the anthem for Operation Respect, an educational program. The message of the book is that everyone is different and such differences should be respected. No one likes to be laughed at. This picture book is wonderful for teaching young children the values of respect and tolerance.

The art is deep and starts really dark, but then lights up. It is about how everyone is equal no matter their differences. As a teaching tool it tells why you shouldn't tease people and as the end of the book is a song on how to sing the book.

This book is about accepting children and adults with disabilities. I thin this book is a great book for children to read because they need to realize everyoen has feelings and they need to learn to accpet everyone for who they are. This book can help children realize the affects of bullying.

This book embodies the importance of not bullying and be accepting of others that are different. All children need to hear this book or read it. Many students can relate to this book and not feel a sense of loneliness.

Don't Laugh at Me is a good book to read to children. It shows children that we are all different, but yet we are all the same. It may show some children that they are not alone.

Good book for starting the school year. Treat people nicely. The music is beautiful. Nice illustrations.½
