A sequel to Lost Airports of Chicago, although you don't need to read the two books in any particular order. I found the writing in Forgotten Chicago Airfields to be just as disjointed and narrative-lacking as Lost Airports of Chicago, but maybe it was easier to read after having gotten accustomed to the author's style of writing.

An interesting look into the lost and forgotten history of general aviation in Chicagoland... but I just wish that the books could have been more concise and left me with a better feeling for the history and not just a whole lot of rambling stories.… (más)

You know those little history books they have about small towns, filled with photos and reminiscences from old people about what it was like "back in the day" with only one traffic light and walking uphill both ways? This is that book about long-gone airports in Chicagoland.

I was sort of hoping for a more coherent narrative, but I guess you get what you get with these types of books. Lots of loosely related stories with lots of names to forget and the too-frequently-repeated "but that's another story." (You could make a drinking game out of it, I suppose. One shot for every time the author writes about it being "another story.")

At any rate, this book is a cute little snapshot into the past and I'm not disappointed that I read it. I just wish that I had gotten more out of it.… (más)
