I am still amazed that I can feel as if I have been transported back a few centuries! The details of the meals, the daily rituals, the family traditions, the locations and even all of the names seems so authentic to the time and place - it feels real. I never know what tragedy will hit who next, and there certainly has been an abundance of them. Tough family keeps moving on! The love stories are quite unique and I commend the author to describe the 'bedroom' scenes with good taste while giving us just enough to use our imaginations to fill in the rest. Alone, in a cabin in the woods, with a ghost. Who could ask for more in a ghost story? Harvey starts right out with a hint of foreboding in a conversation between brothers John and Erik. Already my curiosity is roused as to what happened to them when they were kids that brother John doesn't want to talk about. When we finally hear the tale it's from the perspective of young boys,the dialogue between them--spot on. Erick ends up staying at his brothers cabin in the woods--alone. It was a battle between one man, nature and a spirit.My only not pick is a newspaper article from the Boston Globe should have been offset somehow, indented, quotes, a line space something so the reader would know where it ended and the regular narrative began again. Other then that I found it to be classic ghost story stuff. I'm not normally one for stories that have one character (not counting the spirit) in one set location, but I was quite engrossed and had trouble putting it down.
