The adventures are from Ashlai's point of view, and switch to Merritt's from time to time. There are a lot of twists and emotions throughout and Ashlai seems to bring bad luck wherever she goes, but her travelling companions and friends are strong enough to bounce back. The story has great descriptions but not-so-engaging dialogue. Nonetheless, the book is heartfelt and a great read.

One of Christine E Schulze’s reasons for writing The Amielian Legacy was to enthrall readers with a fantastical adventure, with characters that will grab the reader’s imagination, bringing them along on an epic quest. Larimar: Gem of the Sea is the first novella of the series, and once I began reading, I didn’t stop until I was finished.

We begin with a map of the Four Realms, and at the end of the book Christine E Schulze explains their history.

Captain Jorah is at the helm of the Gem of the Sea, sailing on another adventure. There is no place he would rather be, and as we learn his story, we find this adventure was a long time coming. It will take him to places he never could imaging, encountering many magical creatures. He is good and kind. At times, his crew thinks he’s out of his mind, but they are loyal to the core.

Larimar seeks his help. Only a mortal can pull the sword, the Serpent’s Bane, from the stone and save the City of Larimar. Reminded me of a Charmed episode, and, of course, King Arthur.

If you love action and adventure, fantasy and characters that run the spectrum, from human to supernatural, quests to solve the riddles of myths and legends, then Larimar: Gem of the Sea by Christine E Schulze may be for you.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Larimar: Gem of the Sea by Christine E Schulze.

This was a fairly quick read that drew me in quickly. Jorah was an interesting MC, and I enjoyed getting to know him. I loved the magical world Schulze created, and I'd like to explore more of it. I would've liked this to be a little longer, as there were moments where things felt a little rushed, and there was more tell than show, but otherwise I truly enjoyed reading this. The characters are unique, and combined with the world and plot make for quite an interesting book. While it definitely feels geared towards YA readers, older readers are sure to enjoy the adventure waiting within.

Starting at a new school is not so bad when you have familiar faces waiting to great you, and not so familiar faces just waiting to be your friends. Chasmira is happy to be reunited with her old friends Tiffany and Aaron, but soon realizes how much they have all changed when Tiffany constantly disappears without question and Aaron is shown to be a mean bully. However Chasmira's many new friends assure her that all this is nothing new.

After repeatedly finding himself the victim of several deadly incidences, out of no where Arron is flung into the past and is again under attack but this time by dark warriors on black horses carrying black weapons. For some reason these warriors have decided that Aaron and his new friend Alyssa Liv are threats to their cause, that is until it is revealed that Arron is a hero, but not just any hero, he is the Hero of 1000 years, the Hero of Destiny.

The Hero Of 1,000 Years is a story of a large group of friends who also happen to be fairies and elves. A dark and evil man is out to rule the world and only Arron as the hero, along with the help of his brave friends, stands a chance at stopping this great evil. Along the way there are dances to attend, a dragon to slay and a school to save. This self published story has some errors and forgotten story threads that I assume will be picked up in the following books, but as a story of magical teens it reads more like a children's book and I think it will be more appreciated by a younger audience.

Let me premise with the fact that I once was a hardcore fantasy book follower. My shelves were filled with Tor books and I had mastered the art of remembering the names, lineages and personalities of multiple characters. Yes my friends, reading a fantasy book is like stepping into a brand new world. You start by feeling your way around to see if you can get acclimated, but once you do you're hooked. I missed that. So I was excited to read Bloodmaiden as soon as I opened it!

The book opens with a suspenseful first chapter, drawing you in almost instantly. We are introduced to Crislin, the new Qelda of Tynan, and her new husband. What follows is a gorgeous romp through beautiful dynasties, roving countrysides and an all around vividly painted world. My absolute favorite part of stories like these is falling in love with the world that is created within. Christine Schulze does a fabulous job of providing enough description to paint a mental picture for the reader, while still allowing them to add in certain details on their own. It was fantastic!

Characters. Characters are an extremely important part of any fantasy story. I think that is why I ended up with such an affinity for strong characters at all. It fuels my reading. I can happily say that the characters in Bloodmaiden, all the way down to the smallest supporting one, were excellently written and completely intriguing. I was hooked into the story with the setting, and brought further into it by the character development. My one qualm with the characters, however, was the lack of conversation between Crislin and her husband. Although I feel like it may have taken away from the story somehow, I would have liked to see them interact more. I felt their love, but part of me wanted to see it as well.

As for the story itself, my one difficulty while reading was the quick pace at which the story moves. It isn't that the story isn't engrossing. It is in fact so engrossing that I was a little thrown off by how quickly things were happening. By the time I would figure out exactly what the important events in the chapter were and how they tied into what I had previously read, a new plot twist was thrown at me. I'll admit that it definitely kept the story fresh! It kept me at the edge of my seat for sure. However I would have liked a little more time to slowly revel in the beauty of the world and the words on the page.

Overall Bloodmaiden is a very solid and well-written story! I haven't even begun to delve into the delicious dragon-fueled dynasties, or any of the other epic parts of the storyline. I'll leave that up to you to discover as you dive into this beautifully written book. I happily recommend this book to all fantasy lovers out there! Enjoy!

I thought that this was a story just about vampires, but there was a mix of faith and vampires. Which, while interesting, to say the least, just seems very unlikely and a bit out of place. Some of the details of this are very well thought out and nice touches to add a little bit of difference from other vampire stories such as a vampire's skin becoming the color of their eyes when they touch water, or needing to be killed with gold rather than silver. I'll admit I appreciated those little differences a lot. But the intermix of faith and god was just a bit too much for me, it seemed forced.

There were also some issues with the format and the characters that seemed too obvious to me as well. There were sections that were somewhat repetitive. Completely repeated in the case of the prologue. The prologue is at the beginning, of course, and then the entire section is repeated in chapter 6, on page 47 I believe. As I was reading, I thought to myself, "Wait a second, either this is random deja vu or I've actually already read this exact section." I searched the book and found the prologue and the exact paragraph. This bothered me somewhat because the function of a prologue is to set up the story, and in my opinion it should not be repeated within the story itself.

There's also the fact that the main character's name is Chrystine. At first I thought, okay, cute, the main character's name is the same as the author. But then when her last name is revealed as Ezulchs, (which is the author's last name spelled backwards) I just thought that is just over the top. And then one of the characters names is Lund, which is the last name of a teacher that Schulze mentions in thanks at the beginning of the book.

I'm all for including similarities of people in one's life in their writing, after all one of the sayings is "write what you know." But, I prefer this to be done in a more subtle way. The story itself was nicely done, but the details themselves were confusing at times and a little over done. Some of the explanations could have been more concise, while others, like the descriptions of Grace and Aaryn, Grace is described as half japanese, and Aaryn's family is Hispanic. Nothing wrong with that, but when she describes Aaryn's mother as having waves of red hair which is strange for someone of hispanic origin, it's like saying that all individuals of hispanic origin must have darker hair and darker complexion, since this red hair is so unusual.

The story was a nice change of pace from typical vampire tales, and as I understand it is the first in a series of several more books so I won't count it out just yet, but it didn't have me holding my breath in anticipation for the next one.

Crislin has just been selected to be the latest sacrifice to the dragon that rules her nation. But instead of allowing herself to be slaughtered, she and her husband flee. They embark on a quest to put together the five songs or whatever that, when played, will somehow convince the other dragons to have a council or something and stop the dragon that's eating people in her country? I dunno. I read this a while ago but have put off reviewing it because I didn't want to be open about how awful it is. The author seems sweet, sheltered, and probably young, and I feel bad about savaging her work. But there's really nothing else to do. The writing is abominable, the world-building incoherent, the dialog unreal and stilted, the pacing uneven, the plot is--I don't even have words.

This book is set in a world ruled by dragons of various jewel colors. The world has no technology in the slightest--it's clearly your typical medieval fantasy set-up. And yet, here's how one of the characters is described: "I gasped and stared. A girl hardly older than myself stopped before them. She possessed the fair skin and golden curls of a Gauthieran. Round, copper-colored spectacles encircled eyes blazing a fiery icy blue, scolding each dragon in turn. Beyond her eys though, she was in no way intimidating. Her clothes themselves were elegant, a white sweater, a black velvet skirt falling to her knees, and white knee socks embroidered with black music notes and treble clefs. A scarf tied about her waist to match the socks. A treble clef necklace and earrings glistened, as well as a pin shaped like a guitar. Most interesting of all, a white mark shone upon her cheek. It might've been a birthmark, a painted mark, or a mark of the Gauthierans. It shimmered faintly, a small star nestled within the curve of a crescent moon."

The vast majority of the book is taken up with equally detailed descriptions of every person/sprite/god/etc they meet, each more powerful and more beautiful than the last. It's certainly very vividly drawn. And the author has clearly put a lot of work and heart into this. In fact, [b:Bloodmaiden|8265396|Bloodmaiden|Christine E. Schulze|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1317080924s/8265396.jpg|13113388] is just part one of a vast, twenty-seven book series. I honor her drive and passion, but abandoning this awful, awful series is probably the best thing she could do for herself and her prospective readers.

Although a short read, it was truly a fascinating tale. Adventure into a mythical land for a friend he made long ago, this hero shows just how noble one can be and how strong friendships are, no matter the amount of years gone by.

Although it has taken me about 6 months to read this novel, I must say, it was worth it! In reading it for so long, it allowed me to truly enjoy the story and the adventure of what was going on with these group of friends. From characters growing into young adults to seeing the many faces of evil, this book is highly recommended for readers of all ages. There is so much faith and love that you'll also learn a little something from it.

This book was provided to me by the author in digital form (since I entered to win but didn't) in exchange for an honest review. I do not know the author. All thoughts are my own.

This YA book is very well imagined, developed and written. The author has a very vivid imagination and the ability to put forth beautifully, descriptive words pulling in the reader.

It's a tale of a young girl, Ashlai of Fyre who, in the beginning, meets a tree sprite named Aryl. He saves her life and then she tells him of her terrible past couple of days. Her brother, Merritt has left for an apprenticeship with a blacksmith but she fears him dead. Along with fearing Merritt's death, she also believes that Bromwell (the man who raised them) may also be dead. She finds a shard of crystal that had been buried with her "little girl" things left to her by her mother. Inside the shard is a Fyre princess that guides Ashlai toward her destiny. Ashlai and her new found friends embark on a journey where she finds more than she ever imagined including love.

Although it is a YA book, I am 42 years old and very much enjoyed it. I totally recommend it for anyone young or young at heart!

Whatever assumptions and predictions I have made about this story was destroyed as I read this book page by page. This book is so powerful, vicious and poetic, describing how a couple seeks freedom from tyranny in thier homeland. I loved everything about this story, from the characters to the different worlds to the riddles all the way to its final epic moment. Just like I have recommended this book to my friends, I highly recommend this book to all readers.

Autographed Book Giveaway & Review: We’re participating in the Fairy Tale Giveaway Hop, and our giveaway for that hop is Lily in the Snow & Other Elemental Tales by Christine E. Schulze. This collection of short stories and novella-length stories includes 6 tales about different elementals, all of which read a bit like classic fairy tales. I haven’t read many elemental stories; however, I did enjoy these. They do seem to be more geared toward a tween and teen audience; however, adults who like light romantic elemental tales may also appreciate some of them. Read the rest of my review & enter our giveaway at http://popcornreads.com/?p=3698

I liked this book quite a bit, but seeing as I am not a hardcore fan of fantasy/sci-fi as many people out there, all of the odd names threw me off and made it hard to concentrate on the story itself. However, the story itself was extremely beautiful and very wonderful descriptive language was used. You definitely are rooting for Crislin, Chalom, Pan and Brydon throughout the whole book. Christine definitely has a talent for writing.

I REALLY enjoyed the mythology created in this book. But before I get into that, many thanks from me to Miss Christine Schulze for the copy of the book she sent to me for my reading/reviewing pleasure. And it TRULY was a pleasure! There are many things that I love about this book. The first is that it seems to stand apart from many Christian fantasy books that I've read in the past - it is not a cardboard cutout of preachiness, shoving religion down a reader's throat. Chrystine is a strong main character who lives in a harsh family situation. It was well-written in that she was positive, while being realistic. Her abusive father and bad home life never get Christine down to the point of no return because of the love and belief she has for God. This book portrayed God as a loving entity who cares for everyone and everything in his creation. EVERYTHING is said to have a purpose. Plus magic, elves, fairies, witches and the othernatural beings are known to exist by the rest of the world, colleges even have separate facilities for their learning purposes to help them master their abilities. I like that this was set in college, with characters that were normal teenagers and didn't seem the least bit contrived! Which is a hard thing to find in teen fiction. These were people that the author has been or has known, that much is certain. Because these are people that I HAVE BEEN or have known!!! As a midwestern woman not far (at all!) from her teen years, I recognized myself in Chrystine greatly and though Aaryn is thousands of years old, he is very much a teenager as well. The whole concept of Stregoni Benefici was wonderfully realized, good vampires versus evil ones rather than vamps vs. wolves for once. THANK GOODNESS. I loved that there were alternate dimensions and worlds out of storybooks. I was impressed by the Golden Healer versus Dark Enchantress dynamic and I thought the quote on the first page very fitting:

"It is the choices we make, not the circumstances which spur our need to make those choices, that define who we truly are..."
- Christine E. Schulze

This shows that the author of this book is a true Christian in the belief that our choices are what define us as beings, not our past mistakes or our present ones. It is the way we handle our situations and how we use them to better the lives of ourselves and others if possible that show our worth as people. Life is a gift, but how we use it is up to us. God loves us in spite of everything because we are HIS. I liked that the good Stregoi Benefici were Christians who had decided not to let horrible events in their lives change who they were and what they believed in. I absolutely cannot WAIT to read more by this wonderful author, and I know my friends will love her stories as well. I would recommend this to anyone who has a deep and abiding faith in the power of choice and the wisdom of love. Thank you Miss Schulze for the honor of reading this wonderful book. Also, the cover actually pertains to the story inside, which makes this even better if that's at all possible!

Chrystine is an elf. She doesn't think there is anything extraordinary about herself. She loves her best friends and has a crush on Aaryn. She loves to be anywhere but home because her father is an abusive drunk. Chrystine is an uncommonly good person but she lacks courage and determination. When she finds out she's the Golden Healer she takes it in stride. She will do anything to help Aaryn including traveling into unknown places to fight an ancient evil. Aaryn will do anything including give his own life to protect Chrystine. Aaryn is very secretive and has a mysterious past.
This novel was not a super long. I read it on my kindle and I think it was only a little over 130 pages. Chrystine packs the pages full of humor and adventure, love and loss. The story line was pretty good. I like most of the characters. I wish Chrystine was a bit more courageous. Her character develops over the course of the story but she only has a few spurts of gumption. She also blushes for most of the novel. Chrystine has a lot to overcome especially when it come to her father's problems. Through it all she has complete faith in her maker.
This novel encompasses themes such as friendship, love, faith and good vs. evil.
