Hermann Schlichting

Boundary-Layer Theory is an almost legendary textbook, originally published in German as Grenzschicht-Theorie by Hermann Schlichting, that was first published in English translation in 1955. The most recent 8th edition, completely revised by Klaus Gersten, was published in 2000. The book presents a comprehensive overview of boundary-layer theory and its application to all areas of fluid mechanics, with emphasis on the flow past bodies (e.g. aircraft aerodynamics). It is an indispensable source of information for students of fluid mechanics which has been cited over 16,000 times in the scholarly literature.
