J'ai eu du mal avec ce livre mais découvrant maintenant que ce roman est quasiment un document autobiographique je suis plus touché qu'au cours de sa lecture. L'histoire telle qu'elle est racontée ne m'a pas passionné, le vocabulaire et le style de la narration mêlant passé et présent m'ont parfois découragé. Néanmoins, il est très intéressant, surtout pour un étranger, de découvrir une facette de l'histoire récente de l'Allemagne et les conséquences de la réunification dans la vie intime des allemands.… (más)

I read that for the monthly book club. We voted for it mostly because the story sounded intriguing. It's a strongly biographical novel by a painter/artist who lived and tried to work in the former GDR and then later fled, leaving behind most of her work. After the wall came down she finds out that her oldest and best friend was an informer for the Stasi, the GDR secret police.
The story is still fascinating, but the writing was really difficult. I didn't like the language at all. I wanted to find out more about this person who betrayed her and about the circumstances of the uncovering, but this fascinating story almost disappeared in the back story of her meeting a man online and not being able to cope with losing him because of her past.… (más)
