Molly Sands' style of writing is very suitable for slow buildup long stories. She's normally very good with characterization. In this book, however, she failed to deliver this well. It seems to me she got confused whether she should treat the main character (Catherine) as anti-hero or make her a protagonist. Hence, even though this character is entirely immoral and evil, several important details of her thought processing were omitted (which seemed intentional), probably for avoiding making her a hateful character. Consequently, Catherine is neither a likeable character nor a scary one. It's said she used to be good and moral. And her transformation has just started occurring since the first line of this book. But this transformation is so heavy (and without a very good and logical reason) that she never felt guilt a single time in the entire book. Due to this bad characterization the story could not deliver the true essence of its potential.

Please note that this is an incomplete book. It's basically first part of a trilogy. That full trilogy was later published by the name 'Scorn'. It's better to go for the full book rather than this one.

I'm not sure if the single book would be much fun. As a trilogy, however, it's a masterpiece of Femdom Erotica. It paces slow and develops the characters greatly. And the ending is outstanding. I would suggest to read the full trilogy.

Molly Sands is one of my most favorite authors of Femdom erotica. She writes her stories thoroughly with extensive character and story buildup, and throughout the story you can keep learning about the inner struggles and thought processing of her characters. In my eyes 'Stern' saga is one of the best Femdom books ever written. Mrs. Shepherd's Boy is also listed among the best books in my shelf. This Saga, however, is greatly disappointing for me. Why, because it seems to me that Molly got confused here whether she wanted to create the main character, Catherine, an anti-hero or protagonist. This is a mistake lots of authors do. They fall in love with their evil characters. And they try to justify the evil actions of those characters by whatever means they can. Which completely destroy the essence of that story.

Here, it's pretty obvious that Catherine is an entirely immoral and evil character. But to try to make the reader feel good about her, or avoid them to start hating her, several important details of her thought processing were omitted intentionally. Consequently, Catherine is neither a likeable character nor a scary one as a villain of the character should be. It's said she used to be good and moral, and her transformation has just started (from the beginning of the book.) But it doesn't feel like one. It seems like she was always and evil and immoral person. She just didn't know it herself. And maybe, the author didn't know it either. Because this transformation is so heavy, and without a single good and logical reason, that she never felt guilt a single time in the entire book. She was just blabbering. Hence, I could not attach with this character same way I attached with the characters of Stern and Mrs. Shepherd. For most part of the book I wanted the husband to pack his bag and leave, and end his idiocy of being with such a woman. Because his inner struggles here felt more like that... idiocy, rather than submission. Not only I started hating Catherine, I started hating her husband as well for keeping up this relationship.

Some people will still love it and rate this book highly. And I can understand why. As I said earlier, all works of Molly Sands are thoroughly written. And this thoroughness is always impressive. I think I'm being pretty harsh here by rating this book only two stars. But I really want to recommend people to avoid this book and instead go for Stern and Mrs. Shepherd. Because those books are far superior to this one. However, if you're a fan of Molly Sands, and have already read those books, you might still want to read this one. Maybe you will enjoy this.

Molly Sands is one of my most favorite authors of Femdom erotica. In my eyes 'Stern' saga is one of the best Femdom books ever written. Mrs. Shepherd's Boy is also listed among the best books in my shelf. This Saga, however, which started with 'A New Devotion', is greatly disappointing. Before reading this second book, I had high hopes that Molly would have recovered the damages of the first book in this part. Sadly, everything went down the drain even more. I won't say there won't be any people who won't enjoy this saga. For anyone interesting in simple cuckolding stories this could be fun. For me it did not work. I will recommend to go after one of her other books, as she has plenty of masterpieces in the genre.… (más)
